How We Keep Your School Safe Online

Effective eSafety in schools goes beyond a single solution. From filtering harmful content at network level to monitoring device activity and equipping staff with cyber security skills, we provide the complete picture – keeping your pupils safe, your staff informed and your school compliant.

DfE Guidance

Filtering and monitoring is one of six core digital and technology standards the Department for Education requires all schools to meet by 2030. We can help ensure your provision is fully compliant.

Filtering

Internet-Level Filtering

School internet filtering that blocks inappropriate, harmful and illegal content before it reaches your pupils. Filtering is applied at network level, meaning every device on your school network is protected regardless of what browser or app is being used.

Category & Content Controls

Filtering categories can be tailored to your school’s needs, blocking everything from adult content and gambling to proxy bypass attempts. Controls can be adjusted by year group or user type, giving staff appropriate access whilst keeping pupils protected.

Real-Time Threat Blocking

Malicious websites, phishing links and known malware domains are blocked automatically and updated continuously. Your school benefits from up-to-date threat intelligence without any manual intervention required.

DfE Filtering Standards Compliance

All filtering provision meets the Department for Education’s filtering and monitoring standards, helping your school satisfy its statutory safeguarding obligations and demonstrate compliance during Ofsted inspections.

Monitoring

Keyword & Behaviour Monitoring

School monitoring software that automatically flags concerning activity in real-time, from self-harm searches and bullying to radicalisation and extremist content. eSafety monitoring tools scan activity across school devices continuously, ensuring nothing slips through unnoticed.

Screen Capture & Activity Recording

Get a visual record of what is happening on school devices. Screenshots are captured automatically when triggered by concerning activity, giving staff timestamped evidence that can be reviewed and used in investigations.

Safeguarding Alerts & DSL Notification

When safeguarding monitoring detects a concern, your Designated Safeguarding Lead is notified immediately with full context. Every alert is logged with a timestamp and audit trail, giving you the evidence you need for Ofsted inspections and governor reporting.

Reporting & Case Management

Log, track and resolve safeguarding concerns in one centralised place. Cases can be assigned, escalated and closed with full notes attached, keeping your whole safeguarding team aligned and your records inspection-ready.

Cyber Security

Staff & Pupil Cyber Security Training

Cyber security training for schools delivered in plain English, covering password safety, phishing awareness, social engineering and safe use of school systems. Tailored sessions available for teaching staff, support staff and pupils.

Incident Response Planning

When a cyber incident occurs, knowing what to do and who to contact makes all the difference. We help schools put a clear response plan in place covering data breaches, ransomware and account compromises, so staff are never left scrambling.

Simulated Phishing Tests

Controlled phishing simulations sent to staff inboxes to identify vulnerabilities before real attackers do. Results are used to target follow-up training where it is needed most, reducing your school’s exposure to email-based attacks.

Acceptable Use Policies

Up-to-date Acceptable Use Policies for staff, pupils and governors, written in line with current DfE guidance. Clear policies that set expectations, protect the school legally and form a key part of your wider safeguarding framework.

    FAQs

Is internet filtering mandatory for schools?

Yes. The DfE requires all schools to have appropriate filtering and monitoring in place as part of its six core digital and technology standards, with full compliance expected by 2030.

What is the difference between filtering and monitoring?

Filtering blocks inappropriate or harmful content before it reaches your pupils. Monitoring records and flags activity that has already taken place, alerting staff when concerning behaviour is detected.

Will filtering block legitimate educational content?

Filtering categories can be tailored to your school’s needs, ensuring educational content remains accessible whilst harmful material is blocked. Adjustments can be made quickly if something is incorrectly blocked.

How are safeguarding concerns flagged to staff?

When monitoring software detects a keyword or behaviour trigger, an alert is sent directly to your Designated Safeguarding Lead(s) with full context, allowing them to act quickly.

What cyber security training do you provide for schools?

Training is available for teaching staff, support staff and pupils, covering phishing awareness, password safety, social engineering and safe use of school systems.

What is a simulated phishing test in schools?

A controlled phishing email is sent to staff inboxes to test whether they would fall for a real attack. Results identify who needs further training, reducing your school’s vulnerability to email-based threats.

How does eSafety provision help with Ofsted inspections?

Ofsted inspectors assess whether schools have appropriate filtering and monitoring in place as part of their safeguarding judgement. Having documented, compliant provision in place demonstrates you take your statutory duties seriously.
